After discovering this part of the world for the first time in Fall 2015, AGU International Office representative Yakup returned to Tanzania and Kenya in order to meet with prospective students and present the University’s concept and programs.

During this 5-day trip, he went to Arusha (TZA), Nairobi and Mombasa (KEN), where he met predominantly with high schoolers who were looking for undergraduate university programs.

The quality and profile of participants was very similar to that observed during the Fall fair: most students joining the fair were preparing their A-Levels, while around 20% of them would be taking the Kenyan KCSE Certificate.

A great number of them were interested in joining AGU’s Programs, such as Business Administration, as well as Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering. Graduate students also joined the fair and visited the AGU stand, enquiring about AGU Graduate Programs like the MSc in Bioengineering, which recently opened.

The Abdullah Gül University stood out from the crowd as the only Turkish university participating in the Fair, moreover offering all its programs 100% in English and also providing first year undergraduate students with free laptop computers.

Yakup also met with student recruitment agencies, which showed interest in representing the University and visited two high schools in Mombasa, one of which featured among the best ranked in Kenya. From this high school also hails the brother of one of AGU’s current students, who welcomed Yakup to Mombasa and his family and took the time to show him around places like Haller Park, the biggest nature park in Mombasa.

Once again, AGU’s presence at the fair helped increase the University’s international reputation and network and will reverberate in the number of applications, especially this summer, once students will have completed their final year of high school.

AGU’s present Kenyan students are currently preparing a cultural event centered on their country, culture and traditions, with the support of the AGU International Office and International Student Association and we are already looking forward to further developing these Intercultural Series with future Tanzanian and Kenyan AGU students.
